FAQs

What is so great about pure hemp bed linen?

Pure hemp was born to be bed linen! Its natural breathability, thermoregulation and antibacterial qualities ensure a comfortable night's sleep. It is the strongest and longest-lasting natural textile fibre available so with proper care your sheets will last a lifetime (one third of which you will be sleeping in them). Hemp bed linen also has an elegant, on-trend aesthetic and a texture similar to flax linen bedding so you don't need to forego style. But best of all, the production of hemp textiles leaves less of a mark on the planet than its mainstream bedding counterparts including cotton (yes, even organic cotton) and flax linen.

What is the thread count?

Like flax linen, hemp textiles are not usually measured according to thread count. Our manufacturer provides a rough indication of thread count of 100. Don't fret if your hemp bedding has a lower thread count than ordinary cotton sheets. Hemp fibre is much denser and stronger than cotton and therefore weightier without the need to jam the threads so close together. The lower thread count also gives hemp yet another point over cotton in terms of environmental-friendliness.

Hemp fabrics are more commonly measured according to GSM (grams per square metre) and in case you are wondering, Calvi.Co bedding is made from pure hemp fabric with a GSM of 165. The result is a lightweight and breathable fabric that keeps you cool in summer but is heavy enough to keep you warm in winter.

Where are Calvi.Co products made?

Our products are made in China, nearby where the hemp fibres are grown and woven into textiles. China is responsible for most of the globe's production of industrial hemp given the historical (and in some cases continuing) prohibitive regulations in Australia and other parts of the world.

We are closely monitoring the development of the industrial hemp industry in Australia and are hopeful that we will soon be in a position to source our materials and manufacture our products locally.

How do you honour your commitment to sustainability and ethics?

We are committed to constantly improving our business operations to reduce our impact on the planet. We hope to add to the following list of sustainable and ethical practices as we grow and learn:

Our products themselves are made from sustainable 100% hemp fibre.

Our products are OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified, meaning they are free from harmful chemicals.

We have our products created in China nearby where the raw materials are grown to minimise unnecessary shipping and logistics.

Our supplier is a member of the amfori Business Social Compliance Initiative (BSCI).

Our products travel from China to Australia by sea rather than air. It takes longer but is generally considered the more environmentally-friendly option.

We use minimal packaging when we send your orders. Our tissue paper and stationery are made with 100% recycled materials.

Our preferred carrier service, Sendle, is 100% carbon neutral.
